World Environment Day
Lostock Primary School marked World Environment Day, with each class focusing on a different aspect of sustainability, including recycling, growing food, water conservation and biodiversity. These activities broadened pupils’ understanding of environmental challenges while developing knowledge and skills linked to future green careers, such as environmental stewardship, problem-solving and sustainable resource management.

Eco Council Newsletter
Our dedicated Eco Council has proudly produced its very first newsletter, which has been shared electronically with all parents and carers across the school community. The newsletter highlights the children’s hard work,
exciting events and environmental projects taking place in school, while also offering practical tips and advice to support families on their own sustainability journey.

Earth Day
Earth Day 2026 was an opportunity for children across the school to explore key environmental issues, including: plastic pollution, recycling and climate change. Through engaging activities, they learned how their everyday actions can help care for the planet. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and commitment to making positive changes for a more sustainable future.

International Women’s Day
During a recent Forest Explorer session, Year 4 pupils explored the work of Greta Thunberg as part of learning linked to International Women’s Day. The session encouraged pupils to consider how young people can play an active role in addressing environmental challenges and shaping a more sustainable future.
As part of their outdoor learning, pupils reflected on the importance of protecting the natural world and discussed how small actions can contribute to larger environmental change. Inspired by these ideas, the children created their own “Nature’s Voice” sticks using fallen branches and natural materials such as leaves and grass. Each piece included a short message for nature, including calls to “Protect our trees” and “Save our planet,” demonstrating their growing awareness of environmental responsibility.

Love Bolton Hate Litter Assembly
Huge thank you to Gareth Pike, from Love Bolton Hate Litter, who came into school to lead an assembly. He spoke to our children about looking after the local environment and how important it is to keep Bolton litter free.

Eco Blue Peter Badge!
We are incredibly proud to share that Carys has been awarded a Blue Peter Eco Badge for her amazing commitment to helping the planet. Carys wrote to Blue Peter to tell them all about her fantastic eco-friendly efforts, as well as sharing some brilliant ideas and suggestions for future Eco-themed shows. As part of our Lostock Family, we are so proud of Carys for being so climate-conscious and responsible—and for earning a badge that we’re sure every staff member would secretly love to have themselves!

Winners – Bolton MP’s Anti-Littering Campaign!
We’re proud to share that our video entry was chosen as the overall winner of the Anti-Littering Campaign set by local MP Phil Brickell! Phil Brickell even sent a letter confirming our win – what an amazing recognition of all the Eco Council’s hard work! A fantastic way to celebrate their efforts to keep our community clean and green. Well done, team!

Eco Council Motto
Eco Council have been working hard all year: leading assemblies, improving school green spaces and planning strategically for the year ahead. They even created their own motto! Well done, Eco Council!

MP Competition
Lostock Primary School is proud to be taking part in a new local initiative
led by our MP to tackle littering and fly-tipping across Bolton West.
In a letter to schools, Phil Brickell, MP, highlighted how litter and
fly-tipping have become a growing concern in the area and called on
pupils to help raise awareness through creativity and community
engagement. As part of the competition, Lostock pupils submitted a
fantastic range of entries, including thought-provoking posters,
powerful artwork, a video created by the Eco Council, and an original
song written and performed by our talented pupils. We’re proud to
support this important campaign and to see our children leading the
way in protecting and improving their local environment.

Love Bolton Hate Litter Assembly
Working in partnership with Bolton Council and community volunteer groups, we are very much looking forward looking forward to hosting a Trust planning meeting later in May, followed by a whole school assembly at Lostock. More details to follow…

Earth Day
Lostock Primary School took part in Earth Day – a worldwide movement that offered an ideal opportunity to get our children thinking about their environmental footprint. Each year group was given an area of environmental concern to discuss and looked at ways we can invest in keeping our planet safe and a better place to live. For example, Year 1 celebrated Earth Day by looking at how plastic pollution is affecting our oceans. They read a story about a sea turtle who got into some trouble because of pollution. They then thought about ways we can stop this from happening. #EarthDay2025

Climate Education Curriculum
Climate education has always been included in the school curriculum. Specific objectives have now been pulled together to create a Climate Education document, evidencing progression throughout school. Enrichment opportunities and whole school events have been included in this plan, raising the profile of sustainability events and learning in school.
